Can I use M5072A on my FRx?
No — M5072A is OnSite-only pediatric pads. The Philips FRx uses the Child Key + SMART Pads II workflow for pediatric, which is a fundamentally different approach. Forcing M5072A into an FRx will cause connection failures. If your facility has both an OnSite and an FRx serving children, you need: M5072A for the OnSite, and the Infant/Child Key for the FRx. Mixed device families don’t share accessory SKUs even within the same Philips brand.
Do I really need separate pediatric pads for an office?
Only if children could ever be patients. For pure adult-only offices, M5071A adult pads alone are fine. But “pure adult only” is rarely true: family open houses, take-your-kid-to-work days, lunchtime visits, after-hours community events all create pediatric exposure. Cost of stocking M5072A is about $95 every 2 years — trivial compared to the legal and ethical exposure of not having pediatric capability when a child needs the AED. Most office facilities stock both as standard practice.
Why doesn't the OnSite use a Child Key like the FRx?
The OnSite was Philips’ first home/office AED, designed before the Child Key workflow existed. Philips later introduced the Child Key on the FRx as a workflow improvement, but never retrofitted it to the OnSite because the OnSite’s pull-cartridge front panel design makes the Key approach impractical. Result: OnSite buyers need to stock dual pad SKUs (M5071A + M5072A); FRx buyers stock a single pad SKU + a one-time Child Key. This is the main pediatric-workflow difference between the two devices.
