Frequently asked questions.

No — CPR-D-Padz deliver an adult-only shock dose that’s too high for patients under 8 years or 55 pounds. For pediatric patients on the AED Plus or AED Pro, you must use ZOLL Pedi-Padz II at ~$165 per pair. The CPR sensor in CPR-D-Padz is also calibrated for adult chest geometry. For schools, daycare, churches with children’s programs, or youth athletic facilities, stock both CPR-D-Padz and Pedi-Padz II side-by-side in the cabinet.

CPR-D-Padz contain the Real CPR Help compression sensor, which is the AED Plus’s killer feature. The sensor measures compression depth and rate in real time and coaches the rescuer. Other AED pads are passive electrodes with no measurement function. The $185 price reflects both the sensor electronics and the industry-best 5-year shelf life (vs 2 years on most other pads). Per-year cost is actually competitive: about $37/yr vs $42/yr on shorter-life Philips pads.

No — CPR-D-Padz are designed exclusively for the AED Plus and AED Pro. The AED 3 uses CPR Uni-padz, a different connector and form factor. This is the most common wrong-purchase mistake in the ZOLL ecosystem. Always confirm device model before ordering. If you have a mixed ZOLL fleet, you need both SKUs stocked — CPR-D-Padz for AED Plus/Pro units, Uni-padz for AED 3 units.

The full 5 years from manufacture date as long as the cabinet is climate-controlled (50–95°F per ZOLL spec) and the package seal is intact. The AED Plus self-test flips the indicator red about 30 days before the printed “Use By” date. Outdoor cabinets with seasonal extremes may shorten effective life by 6–12 months. Mount cabinets in conditioned indoor space whenever possible, and always replace before the indicated date even if the pads “look fine.”
