AED rental 2026: monthly prices and the rent vs buy math
Renting an AED costs $45 to $95 a month at AED Leader and Response Ready on a 2, 3 or 4 year term, plus $100 shipping (29 Oct 2026). A 4-year Philips OnSite rental totals $2,260. Buying the same AED new costs $1,589, or $875 recertified, so buying is cheaper after about 3 years. Rent when you need the service, not the savings.
OnSite rental, $45 a month Or buy recertified, $875
01How much does it cost to rent an AED in 2026?
At AED Leader and Response Ready an AED rental costs $45 to $95 a month, set by the model and the length of the term, plus a flat $100 shipping fee per AED, checked 29 October 2026[1]. Every plan there is a multi-year term: 2, 3 or 4 years. There is no daily or weekend rate.
| AED | 4-year term | 3-year term | 2-year term |
|---|---|---|---|
| Philips HeartStart OnSite Recommended | $45 a month | $60 | $75 |
| ZOLL AED Plus | $45 a month | $60 | $75 |
| HeartSine samaritan PAD 350P / 450P | $45 a month | $60 | $75 |
| Physio-Control LIFEPAK CR2 | $75 a month | $85 | $95 |
Other sellers price rentals very differently. AED.US lists the ZOLL AED Plus at $149 a month month-to-month plus $100 shipping, or $31 a month on a 4-year term with its compliance program[2]. A local provider on Cape Cod rents an AED for $99 a day, $199 a week or $249 a month[3]. The Red Cross offers a 5-year lease paid once a year[4].
4 years: $45 x 48 months + $100 shipping = $2,260
3 years: $60 x 36 + $100 = $2,260
2 years: $75 x 24 + $100 = $1,900[1]
The 3-year and 4-year plans cost the same in total; the 4-year plan simply covers one more year.
02What is included in an AED rental?
The AED Leader and Response Ready plans are full service, not just a device. The listing names these items[1]:
Ready to hang
- AED with pads and battery installed
- Carry case
- First Responder Kit
Kept rescue-ready
- Pads and batteries replaced free when due
- A loaner AED after a use or during service
- Expiry alerts, program management, medical oversight
Rental AEDs ship within 3 business days of the signed rental agreement, which arrives by email for e-signature[1].
03Is it cheaper to rent or buy an AED?
Buying is cheaper on hardware within 4 years. Renting buys you the service: replacements, tracking, medical oversight and a loaner. Here is the hardware math for the same Philips OnSite[1][5][6].
| Option | Paid over 4 years | Warranty left after 4 years | You own it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rent, 4-year term | $2,260 (incl. $100 shipping) | Covered while renting | No |
| Buy recertified OnSite Lowest cost | $974 ($875 + 1 pad set $99) | None (3-year warranty) | Yes |
| Buy new OnSite | $1,688 ($1,589 + 1 pad set $99) | 4 years (8-year warranty) | Yes |
| Buy OnSite Value Package | $1,680.80 ($1,581.80 + $99) | 4 years | Yes, with cabinet and case |
New OnSite $1,589 / $45 a month = 35.3 months. After about 3 years, the rental has cost more than buying the same AED new[1][5].
Recertified OnSite $875 / $45 = 19.4 months.
Pads last 2 years and the battery 4 years on the OnSite[6], so a buyer replaces one pad set ($99) inside 4 years.
Renting wins in three cases: the budget has no capital line but does have a monthly operating line, the site wants someone else to track pads, batteries and medical direction, or the AED is needed for a fixed project of 2 to 3 years. For everything else, buying is cheaper; see the cheapest AED options and refurbished vs new.
Need an AED for more than 3 years? Buying wins
Recertified Philips OnSite: $875 with a 3-year warranty, new pads and battery. Rental: $45 a month on a 4-year term plus $100 shipping. Prices checked 29 Oct 2026.
Recertified OnSite, $875 See it at Response Ready04Can you rent an AED for an event or a weekend?
Not from AED Leader or Response Ready: their shortest term is 2 years[1]. Short rentals come from local CPR and safety providers; one Cape Cod provider charges $99 a day or $199 a week[3].
| Need | Best fit | Cost (29 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| One weekend event | Local day or week rental | About $99 a day (Cape Cod example) |
| A season (pool, camp, league) | Local monthly rental, or buy recertified | $249 a month locally; $875 to own |
| Events every year | Buy recertified and keep it in a carry case | $875 once |
| 2 to 3 year project, no capital budget | AED Leader or Response Ready rental | $75 or $60 a month |
Speed is the reason any of this matters: survival from cardiac arrest drops about 7 to 10 percent for every minute without CPR or a shock[7].
