04What does OSHA actually require?
First aid
Where there is no infirmary, clinic or hospital in near proximity to the workplace, a person or persons must be adequately trained to render first aid [2].
Bloodborne pathogens
Training at the time of initial assignment and at least annually, at no cost to the employee and during working hours [3].
Fire extinguishers
Training upon initial employment and at least annually after that, where staff are expected to use extinguishers [4].
Schools, gyms, child care
Many states add CPR or AED rules for specific sites. Check AED laws by state before you book.
That is why the bloodborne pathogens and fire extinguisher classes carry a 1-year certificate: the OSHA rule is yearly. CPR and AED cards last 2 years.

No federal rule requires every employee to be trained. The practical target is enough trained people on every shift that someone can start CPR and bring the AED within minutes.
