The ZOLL AED 3 fixes two things the AED Plus cannot: one electrode set treats both adults and children, and it reports its own readiness over WiFi. Buy it if you manage a fleet, or children are present. For one adult-only device you check yourself, the AED Plus coaches CPR identically for less.
Every distributor page for this device sells you the touchscreen. The touchscreen is not the reason to buy it. The reason is a pad and a radio, and whether you need either depends entirely on how many AEDs you own and who might collapse near them.
Our verdict
ZOLL AED 3
Buy it when you are managing devices, not just owning one. Two features earn the premium: CPR Uni-padz, which cover adults and children on a single five-year electrode, and WiFi readiness reporting, which tells you a unit needs attention before an inspection does.
Buy the ZOLL AED Plus instead if you have one or two adult-only devices and a person who checks them. It has the same Real CPR Help coaching for less. The AED 3’s advantages are logistical, and logistics only cost money at scale.
CPR Uni-padz: one pad set, adults and children
This is the feature the SERP undersells. CPR Uni-padz are the only five-year AED electrodes that treat both adult and child patients from a single set. You reposition the pads and switch the unit to Child Mode, which applies to patients eight years or younger, or under 25 kg (55 lb).
Compare that to the AED Plus, which needs separate Pedi-padz II kept alongside the adult CPR-D-padz. Two SKUs, two expiry dates, two things to forget, and one decision to make correctly while someone’s child is not breathing.
If children are ever present, this single difference is worth more than the touchscreen and the WiFi combined. Schools are the obvious case, though our schools guide picks the Philips FRx where budget dominates, because its pediatric key is cheaper than this device.

What WiFi readiness reporting is actually for
An AED spends its entire life doing nothing, then has one job. The failure mode is not the shock. It is a flat battery or expired pads nobody noticed.
Manual inspection catches that on a schedule. WiFi reporting catches it the day it happens, and it scales: one dashboard instead of one clipboard per site. That is worth real money above roughly ten units, or across multiple buildings, and close to nothing if you own one device in one lobby and walk past it daily.
If you are at that scale, you are buying a programme, not a product. Size the deployment with the quantity planning tool first, then get a managed quote rather than buying units piecemeal.

The honest read: adults only, one device, the AED 3 is hard to justify over the AED Plus. Add children, or add units, and the premium starts paying for itself in pads you do not buy and inspections you do not run.
Who should buy it, and who should not
Buy the AED 3 if
- You manage roughly ten units or more. WiFi readiness reporting replaces the clipboard. Size it with the quantity calculator.
- Children are present. One Uni-padz set covers both populations. No second SKU, no second expiry date.
- You run multiple buildings. Remote readiness is the only thing that scales across sites.
- Untrained responders. Real CPR Help coaches depth and rate, same as the AED Plus, on a colour display.[5]
Buy something else if
- One or two adult-only devices. ZOLL AED Plus gives the same CPR coaching for less.
- Budget is binding. HeartSine 350P is the lowest entry price, with pads and battery in one dated cartridge.
- Simplicity for a stranger matters most. Philips HeartStart OnSite is the easiest to hand to an untrained bystander.
- Schools on a tight budget. The Philips FRx pediatric key solves the child problem for less device money.
