Every refurbished horror story fails one of the checks below, usually in the first group. Work through them against any listing, print the page for procurement, and email the seller the six questions at the bottom. A documented recertifier passes all twelve without friction; a flipper stalls by check three.

Send these before paying anyone, including sellers we link. The answers, in writing, become your paper trail.
- Describe your recertification process for this model, step by step.
- What are the battery and pad expiry dates shipping with this exact unit?
- What does the written warranty cover, and for how long?
- Is this model free of open FDA recalls, and is its software current?
- What post-sale support do you provide, and how do I reach it?
- Can you provide the unit’s serial number before purchase?
- Checklist passed?

How do I choose a refurbished AED?
Seller first, device second, paperwork third: the twelve checks above in order. Model choice comes after the seller clears: the ranked guide covers which units are worth buying at all.
What if a seller fails one check?
One documented exception with a written explanation can be acceptable; friction or vagueness on the seller-group checks is disqualifying. The price being wonderful does not repair a failed check three.
Should I just buy new instead?

A recertified AED is a used device. That is why the three year warranty matters more than the price. If the warranty were one year we would not recommend it. Every unit above is FDA approved through premarket approval, a PMA number, not a 510(k) clearance.
