Key Features
- Pre-connected design for fast deployment
- Works for adult and pediatric patients with Infant/Child Key
- Designed for the rugged FRx AED platform
- SMART technology integrates with the device guidance system
Philips Smart Pads II are the authorized adult electrode pads for the HeartStart FRx (model 861304). 2-year shelf life — the standard replacement cycle for Philips consumer AEDs. Note: while compatible with the OnSite (HS1), Philips typically packages OnSite pads in their own cartridge (M5071A) — see the OnSite-specific page if that’s your AED. The FRx Child Key works with Smart Pads II to enable pediatric mode without a separate pad swap.
SMART Pads II are the adult replacement pads for the Philips HeartStart FRx — and ONLY the FRx. They do not fit the OnSite (which uses M5071A) or the FR3 (which uses a separate FR3 pad). Pediatric coverage on the FRx is handled by the Child Key, not by swapping pads — so a school deploying FRx units stocks SMART Pads II + Child Keys, not a separate pediatric pad SKU.

- Common Questions
Frequently asked questions.
Will SMART Pads II fit my Philips OnSite?
No — SMART Pads II are FRx-only. The OnSite (HS1) uses M5071A adult pads which look similar but have a different connector and pad geometry. Forcing the wrong SKU into either device will cause a connection failure and rescue-time delay. This is the #1 wrong-purchase mistake in the Philips ecosystem. Always confirm device model before ordering. If you operate both an FRx and an OnSite, stock both SMART Pads II AND M5071A — they are not interchangeable despite Philips brand consistency.
Do I need separate pediatric SMART Pads II?
No — and this is the FRx’s biggest advantage. The Philips FRx uses the Child Key to switch into pediatric mode while keeping the standard SMART Pads II attached. There is no “Pediatric SMART Pads II” SKU because none is needed. Buy the Child Key at ~$110 (one-time, no expiration), stock standard SMART Pads II for refills, and your FRx serves both adult and pediatric patients. This is why FRx is our 2026 Best Overall for schools.
What's the difference between FRx SMART Pads II and OnSite Pads M5071A?
Different connector geometry, different pad backing, different SMART Biphasic firmware tuning. FRx SMART Pads II are designed around the FRx’s pull-tab activation. OnSite M5071A are designed around the OnSite’s pull-cartridge front panel. Both are 2-year shelf life and similar pricing (~$85 per pair), but they do not cross-fit. Even though they’re both “Philips adult pads,” device family matters. Read the box label before ordering; both names start with “HeartStart” which compounds buyer confusion.
