Questions buyers ask most about ZOLL AED.

ZOLL AED is a line of automated external defibrillators manufactured by ZOLL Medical Corporation (Chelmsford, Massachusetts). The current US lineup includes three FDA-approved models — AED 3, AED Plus, and AED Pro — all featuring Real CPR Help, a real-time depth and rate feedback system that coaches the rescuer during CPR. ZOLL is a subsidiary of Asahi Kasei Corporation since 2012.

The ZOLL AED device carries a 7-year manufacturer warranty on AED Plus and AED 3, 5-year on AED Pro. Consumables have shorter cycles: CPR-D-padz last 5 years (longest in the FDA-approved category), the CR123A battery pack lasts ~5 years in standby. Verify manufacturing date on the back of the unit before deploying — stock can be 12 to 18 months old.

ZOLL AED 3 for gyms, trained ERTs, and any environment where touchscreen dashboard + universal Uni-padz add value. ZOLL AED Plus for trained rescue teams wanting proven Real CPR Help at a lower price. ZOLL AED Pro for EMS teams needing manual override and advanced diagnostics. See the full AED 3 review or take the 60-second quiz.

Authorized US distributor list prices: AED Plus $2,021 new / $1,832 recertified. AED 3 $2,240 new / $1,995 recertified. AED Pro $3,365. Add ~$250 per year for CPR-D-padz and battery replacement to model true 5-year cost. Use the Cost Calculator.

Real CPR Help is ZOLL’s proprietary CPR feedback system that measures compression depth and rate in real time via a sensor in the CPR-D-padz. Voice prompts coach the rescuer — “push harder” or “good compressions” — during the rescue. Only ZOLL AEDs include this feature.

See-Thru CPR is a ZOLL-exclusive technology that filters CPR compression artifacts from the ECG signal, letting the AED analyze heart rhythm during compressions. This shortens the CPR pause required for shock analysis, keeping perfusion higher during the rescue.

Yes. Recertified ZOLL units from authorized distributors carry the same FDA FDA PMA approval and manufacturer warranty as new. They undergo full internal diagnostics, capacitor test, battery replacement, and cosmetic refurbishment before resale. See our full recertified AED Plus review.

ZOLL Medical Corporation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Asahi Kasei Corporation, a Japanese multinational chemicals and healthcare conglomerate. Asahi Kasei acquired ZOLL in 2012 for $2.2 billion. ZOLL operates independently from its Chelmsford, Massachusetts headquarters with its own product roadmap and management.

Independent. Verified monthly. Zero ZOLL money.

AED Best Brands is an editorial AED-review publication. We are not owned by any AED manufacturer, do not accept paid placements, and ZOLL did not have preview access to this review. Every product claim traces to the FDA PMA database, ZOLL’s manufacturer datasheet, Asahi Kasei’s SEC filings, or a peer-reviewed clinical source.
