01Which AED wins for which buyer?

The two models solve different problems. The OnSite removes steps for the rescuer: pull the green handle and it talks you through the rescue. The ZOLL AED Plus watches the rescuer: a sensor in its one-piece pad reports whether each push is deep enough and fast enough.

03Which one costs less over 5 and 10 years?

The OnSite wins the first five years by $46. Over ten years the ZOLL AED Plus pulls ahead, because its pads and batteries last 5 years instead of 2 and 4. The math below assumes no rescue (a used pad set is replaced at once) and AED Leader prices from 9 October 2026.

Philips OnSite, new
5 years: $1,589 device + 1 battery at year 4 ($249) + 2 pad sets at years 2 and 4 ($198) = $2,036
10 years: $1,589 + 2 batteries ($498) + 4 pad sets ($396) = $2,483

ZOLL AED Plus, new
5 years: $2,082 device, pads and batteries included and rated for 5 years = $2,082
10 years: $2,082 + 1 CPR-D-padz ($230) + 1 battery set ($100) at year 5 = $2,412
CostPhilips OnSiteZOLL AED PlusGap

10 years$2,483$2,412ZOLL $71 cheaper
Replacement visits in 10 years6 (pads x4, battery x2)1 (pads + battery together)5 fewer for ZOLL

Cabinet, signage and training are the same for both and left out. Run your own numbers in the AED cost calculator. Pad and battery basics: AED pads explained and AED batteries explained.

The fewer visits matter more than the $71. Expired pads and flat batteries are the failure points an owner controls, so a site with no named AED owner is safer with one replacement date every five years than six dates spread across a decade.

04Does real-time CPR feedback matter?

It is the one feature that separates these two AEDs in a rescue. The AHA asks for compressions at least 2 inches (5 cm) deep, no more than 2.4 inches, at 100 to 120 per minute [7]. A metronome can fix the rate; only a sensor can tell a rescuer the depth is falling short.

Coaches

Philips OnSite

Gives voice instructions and a metronome beat for rate. It cannot tell whether the rescuer is pushing hard enough. After the CPR interval, Quick Shock delivers a shock in about 8 seconds, which keeps the hands-off pause short [1].

Measures

ZOLL AED Plus

Real CPR Help reads each compression through the CPR-D-padz sensor and responds with prompts such as "Push harder" or "Good compressions" [2]. The rescuer gets correction, not just a beat.

For a site where EMS may take longer to arrive, such as a large gym or a rural plant, the ZOLL's feedback is worth the $493 premium. For a small office with EMS minutes away, the OnSite's speed to first shock covers the risk at a lower price.

05Which one handles a rough site better?

The ZOLL AED Plus, clearly. IP55 means protected against dust and low-pressure water jets; IP21 means protected only against dripping water [1][2]. The OnSite belongs in a clean, indoor cabinet. Full scale: AED IP ratings explained.

06What about children?

Both treat children under 8 years or 55 lb with dedicated pads that lower the energy. The OnSite uses the M5072A infant/child cartridge ($139), which Philips labels prescription use only [1]. The ZOLL uses Pedi-padz II ($155) [6]. Schools and daycares should budget the child pads on day one; neither unit includes them.

07New, value package or recertified: which price makes sense?

Option (AED Leader, 9 Oct 2026)Philips OnSiteZOLL AED Plus
New device$1,589$2,082
Value package$1,581.80$2,144.70
Recertified, 3-year warranty$875$875
5-year cost, recertified$1,322 (pads x2 + battery)$875 (sold with new pads and battery rated 5 years)

Two findings stand out. First, the OnSite value package lists $7.20 below the bare OnSite device, so a business buyer should not buy the device alone. Second, the recertified ZOLL AED Plus is the cheapest five years of protection in this comparison, because AED Leader lists it with new pads and battery and both are rated for 5 years [6].

AED Leader lists the package contents as the AED with pads and battery, a wall cabinet, a carry case, signage, instruction booklets and a first responder kit.
